RE: Academic employee vote dates announced; bargaining continues
Yesterday I wrote to you to advise that the College Employer Council was asking the Ministry of Labour to direct a vote to give striking academic employees an opportunity to vote on its latest offer. I’m writing to confirm that the Ontario Labour Relations Board today ordered a faculty vote to be held Tuesday, Nov. 14 through to Thursday, Nov. 16. We will let you know the results as soon as they become available.

At this point, we have been informed that until the vote takes place, the strike continues and full-time classes cannot resume. Please know, however, that the bargaining unit representing the academic employees and the College Employer Council have resumed negotiations. We remain hopeful that a negotiated settlement will occur before the vote takes place so that we can get you back to school as soon as possible.

You will find more information through the Council’s release (pdf) and on Our update page also includes answers to questions that we have been receiving from students. And you can always write to me at We have a team of people here willing to help however we can in this challenging time.

We continue to work on plans for each program to help our students complete their semester and honour travel commitments. When you are back in class, we will be sharing those plans with you. We will also have many staff across Seneca to support you when you return to school.

No matter when classes resume, we can still confirm that there will not be any academic activity such as classes, exams, tests or assignments between Friday Dec. 22 at 6 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 7 a.m.

Thank you again for your continued patience and understanding and we hope to have you back at Seneca soon.
