Indigenous Teachings

United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals 4. Quality Education

First Peoples@Seneca honours Indigenous culture and tradition with sustainable practice. This involves following the Indigenous wisdom of looking ahead seven generations and understanding how our past links with the present while not compromising future generations. With this knowledge, we can contribute to supporting sustainable practices and maintaining a natural balance within our environment.

An example of this on campus is the planting of the First Peoples@Seneca Medicine Garden. Careful consideration was made when planting the medicinal flora, as this also supports wellness for our local bee colony that then pollinates for the well-being of our surrounding environment — and so a balance is reached.
