Seneca’s sustainability initiatives have received accolades from Colleges and Institute Canada and the Recycling Council of Ontario.

Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) Awards of Excellence

In 2021, Seneca received a bronze in the CICan Awards of Excellence for Sustainable Development. Seneca was acknowledged for its commitment to sustainability as guided by the principles of United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

In 2020, Don Forster, Director, Office of Sustainability, was awarded a CICan silver medal in recognition of his leadership excellence in driving and supporting sustainability across Seneca’s campuses.

Recycling Council of Ontario (RCO) Awards

Seneca received the prestigious Platinum Waste Minimization Award from the RCO in 2008 and the Gold Award in 2007. These distinctions acknowledged Seneca’s diligence, collaboration and efforts towards environmental best practices.

 

Sustainability Tracking Assessment & Rating System

Seneca has received a silver rating in the Sustainability Tracking Assessment & Rating System (STARS), a self-reporting framework that allows any college or university in the world to register and begin tracking, managing and sharing information about its sustainability efforts.

The rating is recognized by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.
