Seneca Braves Hockey Alumni Tee Up for Third Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Seneca Braves

For these Seneca graduates, being #SenecaProud is par for the course

Members of the Seneca community will tee off Friday, May 31, 2019, at the Pheasant Run Golf Club as part of the third Annual Seneca Braves Charity Golf Tournament.

Launched by 1990s Seneca varsity hockey alumni, Marcus Middleton, Rick Mallette, Daniel Gaudry and Matthew McGuffin, the Seneca Braves Charity Golf Tournament supports youth mental health and youth in hockey.

“We are grateful for the time we had at Seneca,” said Matthew McGuffin, tournament committee member. “It is nice that some of us on the team still keep in contact with each other, and this is one way for us to give back.”

Proceeds from the tournament will go to Spencer’s Kids, an organization that raises funds for kids without the financial means to play hockey, and Fighting The Truth, a not-for-profit that provides mental health resources to youth and young adults in sport.

The Braves Charity Golf Tournament has also recently partnered with The Angel Project, a charity whose donations help care for complex care patients who have become alienated in hospitals, abandoned by their families or by society at large.

Special guests this year include Liam Maguire, NHL historian, hockey trivia expert and author. Maguire, a notable TV personality from TSN’s Off the Record and Seneca alumnus, will be signing copies of his latest book, The Real Ogie!

In The Real Ogie!, Maguire tells the story of Bill ‘Goldie’ Goldthorpe, the Canadian professional hockey player and enforcer known as 'the real Ogie Ogilthorpe,’ a character in the 1977 cult classic hockey movie Slap Shot.

Whether you are a #SenecaProud graduate looking to sink a hole-in-one alongside your fellow alumni, a hockey aficionado or simply looking for a warm-hearted way to give back, there is something for everyone at this year’s third Annual Seneca Braves Charity Golf Tournament.
