While marketing is used by both profit and not-for-profit organizations to meet the demands of the market place, this course introduces students to the fundamental marketing concepts used by profit oriented business organizations.

Marketing II

MRK106 - Introductory Marketing I

This course continues from MARKETING I (MRK106) and relates marketing theory and concepts to the creation of effective marketing strategies and strategic marketing management. This course furthers the study of marketing planning, buyer behaviour and physical distribution. Students will also learn to identify marketing problems and to improve business performance through the application of marketing principles and practices. Using financial metrics, students will evaluate the attractiveness of marketing opportunities and the impact of marketing decision-making in a computer simulated environment.

Professional Selling

Prerequisite(s):

MRK200

A career in selling can focus on either business to business or retail sales. This subject deals primarily with business to business selling in which students will learn and practice the fundamentals of the sales process, needs analysis, consultative selling and relationship building. Students will develop interactive selling skills through presentations and self evaluation. Emphasis will be on developing confidence, professionalism and communication skills required in today's world. This subject is offered in conjunction with the Canadian Professional Sales Association (CPSA). It is an educational requirement for the Certified Sales Professional (CSP) designation that additionally requires two years work experience in sales and successful completion of examinations, oral and written. It also meets the educational requirement for the certificate program, Professional Sales Certificate (PSC).

Social Media Courses

Social Media Marketing

In this course you will be provided with a fundamental understanding of many of the different social media channels including the use of mobile apps and games for social media marketing. Once an understanding of the media channels is established you will learn how to leverage the channels to engage audiences, and integrate with traditional media, in order to achieve marketing objectives.

Social Media and Society

In a few short years, social media has profoundly changed the global communication landscape. With the advent of social media tools such Facebook, YouTube, Wikipedia, and Twitter, more and more people are connecting and collaborating online, and creating and distributing content in ways we have never seen before. This course will provide a summary of the major developments in social media and will examine how social media is changing media, business, government, the economy, development, and education in fundamental ways. Students will be introduced to a variety of social media environments and will gain hands-on experience with many of the leading social media applications. This course requires active participation of students and a willingness to immerse in social media practices.
