Location: Virtual meetings to be held entirely online using Webex

Join us for the virtual cFLEX Conference 2020 to connect with your peers in the Seneca and Centre for Flexible Learning (cFLEX) community. We are looking forward to spending a half day together via three, consecutive, interactive Webex sessions during which we will be discussing ideas, sharing experiences, and finding support.

Each session will be presented by members of the Facilitator Reference Group, whose passion it is to remind you that we are all in this community together and (re)invigorate our connectedness.

Session 1

"Goodbye, Mr. Chips: Facilitating online during a pandemic”

Have you seen the 1939 film, or the 1969 remake, about Mr. Chipping, a beloved aged school teacher and former headmaster of a boarding school who recalls his career and his personal life over the decades? It made us reflect on the changing times we are all facing. While the onset of the pandemic has been a time of great uncertainty and apprehension, it has also brought about new opportunities and innovative ideas. Join us for an engaging discussion about your experiences, ideas and tips that have helped enhance your online facilitation skills and perhaps uncovered your own resiliency along the way. Bring your morning beverage of choice to this session!

Session 2

"To Sir, with Love: Helping students help themselves"

Or perhaps you are a fan of the 1967 British drama film that deals with social and racial issues in an inner-city school? It helps us to remember that just like us, our students are juggling their own issues, as well as multiple responsibilities and demands on their time, all while pursuing continuing education. Join us as we look at some of the demographics of our learners and consider how we can help them help themselves, and the support the Centre for Flexible Learning offers. Get ready to participate in an interactive session where we spend some time reflecting upon how our approach can make a world of difference to our students!

Session 3

"Back to the Future: Finding your Zen"

Maybe this 1985 American film really appeals to you, especially its suggestion that we could travel back in time to fix today’s problems before they have even begun? As appealing as this may be in the midst of these unprecedented times, we are here to say there are indeed easier ways restore your inner peace and find your Zen! Join us for a stimulating and lighthearted discussion about new and familiar ways to cope during these difficult times. Bring your funky bandana, silly hat, or favourite character attire to this session, as together we will share resources and tools staying safe and staying motivated for the important job you do.
