WIR208 - Introduction to Settlement Sectors

Prerequisites:

All module 1 courses

This course introduces students to current policies, legislation and regulatory environments governing the immigration experience and immigration and refugee processes. In addition, attention will be paid to various social issues connected to the settlement process and the various governmental resources available to help facilitate the individual clients, family and community settlement, self-reliance and empowerment. Emphasis will be on understanding the settlement needs of the following target groups: children, youth, women, refuges, LGBTI communities, seniors, people with disabilities and survivors of torture and trauma. Lectures, case studies, and experiential exercises will be offered as vehicles for learning.
