This hands-on Certificate program provides the practical skills and knowledge to build your career. Our facilitators are current professionals within the industry providing students with up-to-date industry knowledge and innovation. Students will learn Manicures, Pedicures, Waxing, Facials, Microdermabrasion, Light Therapy, Shellac, Chemical Peels, Hot Stone Massage, Anti-aging treatments and much more.
Students may be interested in beginning their studies with the Beauty Therapist Recognition of Achievement (ROA).

A variety of challenging career opportunities exist in the spa industry for graduates. Employment is available in esthetic salons, skin-care centres, on cruise ships, with dermatologists and plastic surgeons or with distributors of esthetic products and equipment. Many students become self-employed estheticians.
In order to achieve success in this program, students must be able to speak, read and write in English. A minimum of Grade 12 English is recommended. Students for whom English is a second language: it is highly recommended that English Assessment and Placement test be taken and the required English courses be completed to develop their language skills.
It is your responsibility to ensure that program requirements and course prerequisites as outlined are met. Prerequisites are included for your academic protection. Knowledge of the prerequisite material is assumed by your instructor and instruction will proceed accordingly. Students lacking prerequisites not only jeopardize their own ability to succeed but present unnecessary interruption. If you lack appropriate prerequisites (or Transfer Credit for the prerequisite course) you may be asked to withdraw or transfer to a more appropriate course with the risk of academic/financial penalty.

This course introduces students to the chemistry of various products designed for and used by estheticians. Nutrition as it relates to the skin, hygiene and bacteriology. Students learn the steps required to set up an esthetic salon and it's day to day operation.
COS820 (may be taken concurrently)
This course examines the structure and function of the skin, bones, and muscles of the face and neck as they apply to advanced esthetic practice. Students study the principles of facial care, analysis of the skin and its characteristics, skin problems and disorders. Theory is continually integrated with practical work.
This course provides students the knowledge to perform a variety of professional manicure techniques. This will include hand and arm massage, exfoliation techniques, and paraffin treatments. Students will learn to perform a regular polish, French polish, and colour gel application (SHELLAC/OPI). Anatomy of the hand/arm is taught as well as best practices in sterilization and infectious control in relation to manicuring.
This course provides students the knowledge to perform a variety of professional pedicures. This will include feet massages and exfoliation techniques for feet (addressing problem skin areas on the feet). Students will learn to perform a regular polish, and French pedicures, as well as colour gel application (SHELLAC/OPI). Anatomy of the foot/leg is taught as well as best practice in sterilization and infections control in relation to pedicures.
This course introduces students to the techniques for facial massage and masque procedures as well as the study of the lymphatic system. Theory classes cover the history of massage. Various types of facial massages techniques are introduced. Basic aromatherapy and uses of essential oils are integrated during facial.
Student learn the structure and function of hair growth patterns. Waxing methods used in both facial and body hair removal are practiced. Depilatory products are introduced. Contra-indications for specific applications and products are studied.
Through the use of innovative technologies and products, students will learn to perform and customize advanced specialized skincare treatments to treat various skin types, conditions and aging skin. Field trips may be arranged.
COS810, COS820, COS830, and COS855. Students must present a valid Standard First Aid Certificate prior to Graduation.

Students are introduced to professional body treatments, client consultation and body care recommendations for clients. Basic aromatherapy and the study of the lymphatic drainage system, skeletal, muscular and endocrine systems as they pertain to body treatments performed by the Esthetician in a clinic/spa environment are covered.
This Canadian Red Cross blended learning course offers first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need training due to work requirements or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. Learn how to recognize and deal with common medical emergencies including choking, cardiac arrest and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for adults, children and babies. This course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.

When you meet all program requirements and become eligible for a certificate, diploma, or degree, you must inform the Registrar by completing a Graduation Application form and paying the graduation and alumni fee. Certificates, diplomas, and applied degrees are issued twice a year in the Fall (October), Spring (June) and Winter (February).

A student will be eligible to graduate from a certificate, diploma, advanced diploma or graduate certificate program if they have achieved a minimum graduating GPA of 2.0.
A student will be eligible to graduate from a degree program if they have achieved a minimum graduating GPA of 2.5, which includes a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the courses in their main field of study and a minimum GPA of 2.0 in breadth courses.
