Talented, professionally trained web designers and developers are in demand!

Employers recognize that Seneca's accredited college certificate program trains you to build effective, dynamic and responsive web sites that respond to the needs of business.

Students gain real world experience completing a web site for a real world client. This full-time intensive program is a 14 week online virtual class, offered in January and September. Classes run Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm, with lecture hours from 9:00am to noon each day. Faculty are available during the afternoon, until 4:00pm.

Participants become proficient at designing and building web sites incorporating HTML, CSS, mobile and responsive design, SASS, GitHub, JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, WordPress, Photoshop and Illustrator.

Entry Requirements

Due to the programs accelerated learning and development and to guarantee future success, students are asked to schedule an interview to register for this program. A resume is required for the interview. Students must have a strong computer aptitude. No prior coding or design experience is required for this course.

Internet Technology and HTML/CSS

In this intensive course students learn to use the latest technologies to build modern, leading websites. Special focus is placed on modern development practices using HTML5 & CSS3.

Mobile and Responsive Design

Users are visiting web sites from a broad array of devices and browsers. Students will develop and publish complex and effective web pages and sites using modern development strategies and tools. Strategic design considerations are made for mobile website development.

Graphics & Design

There's a reason Photoshop is the world's industry standard in image-editing software - the depth and breadth of the program is unheralded. Photoshop allows the user (novice or expert) to create and manipulate images with a freedom that is only bound by the imagination. In this intensive course students learn essential graphic manipulation, visualization and composition techniques.

CSS Architecture

Students will continue to add industry-leading tools to their repertoire of skills. Particular focus is paid to frameworks such as Bootstrap to design and build responsive sites and using preprocessors such as SASS to create more complex CSS stylesheets.

Web Programming

Learn the fundamental concepts of JavaScript that form the foundation for web programming and mobile development. Students learn how to design and deploy sophisticated user-interfaces and powerful modern dynamic web pages. Particular focus is given to jQuery.

PHP & Content Management Systems

As websites grow more and more complicated, Content Management Systems (CMS) become a needed reality of modern web development. This module looks at WordPress and investigates the strengths and weaknesses of using a CMS as an approach to web development, including PHP and server side programming.

Project Planning & Management

Students learn how to approach website design as a project. They learn how to research their client's industry, different ways to organize, plan, and design a website, how work is to be sequenced (work flow protocols), what well-designed sites should look like (heuristics), organizing content (information architecture), cost estimating, setting up and running your web design business, communication skills, and conflict resolution.

Emerging Web Technologies

This forward-looking module examines emergent topics and concepts in web-related technologies focussing on practical technologies that can be implemented in whole or in part today, with an expectation of growing support in the future.

Current topics: Relate to data visualization.

Client Project

Professional development in which students will engage a real-life client in a full Web Site design from start (research and preparation) to completion.


The webmaster program is offered twice per year starting January and September.

Fees for Canadian Citizens and Landed Immigrants: the full tuition fee for the 14 week course is Cdn $6,491.

All learning materials (textbooks) are included in the fees.
