Health Insurance Plan Fee

International students registered at Seneca will pay the following health insurance fee for the 2023/2024 academic year at the start of an academic term:

Health Insurance Plan Refund Policy

All international students receive mandatory health insurance included in their College fees while studying at Seneca.

If you are a current student applying for a refund, please email theservicehub@senecapolytechnic.ca, or call 416.764.9900.

The following scenarios outline the refund amount that students will be eligible for:

Prior to deadline for dropping course(s) without penalty

Scenario Eligible refund amount
Student is not in Canada and will not be attending Seneca. Full insurance amount will be refunded with tuition fee by Seneca.
Student is not in Canada and did not receive their visa for Canada. Full insurance amount will be refunded with tuition fee by Seneca.
Student is not in Canada and will not be attending Seneca for the first term. (deferral)

Full insurance amount will be refunded and student will be charged for health insurance fee on the term they will begin with Seneca.

If a credit is processed instead of a refund, credit is applied to outstanding balances for next term fees. Health insurance fee will be recalculated then.

Student is in Canada and will not be attending Seneca – instead attending another institution. Full insurance amount will be refunded with tuition fee by Seneca.
Student is in Canada and will not be attending Seneca for the first term. (deferral) No refund will be given. The student will have medical coverage during the break.
Student is in Canada and will not be attending Seneca and return home. Seneca to receive proof of exit from Canada and a full refund of insurance amount will be processed with tuition fee.
Student is in Canada and has received an Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card. Seneca must receive proof of a valid Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card or proof of Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) in the first 30 days of your insurance enrolment period, in order for you to receive an insurance credit.

For the May  2024 Term, students must complete and submit the Seneca OHIP form by Wednesday, May 30, 2024.

After deadline for dropping course(s)

Student is in Canada and will not be attending Seneca – instead attending another institution. No refund.
Student is in Canada and will not be attending Seneca and return home. No refund.
Student is in Canada and has received an OHIP Card. Seneca to receive proof of valid OHIP within 30 days of the start of first-term to receive a credit towards the insurance amount.
