Seneca receives $1 million from TD Ready Challenge

TD-HELIX Transformation Initiative will re-skill mid-career professionals

Toronto, Oct. 24, 2018 – Seneca has been named one of ten winners of the inaugural TD Ready Challenge presented by TD Bank Group.

Seneca will receive a $1-million grant from the TD Ready Challenge to deliver the TD-HELIX Transformation Initiative, which will focus on re-skilling mid-career professionals at risk of job loss due to disruptive changes in the labour market. Seneca is the only GTA-based postsecondary institution to receive the grant.

“We are so grateful to the TD Ready Challenge for giving us this opportunity to reach such an important segment of the working world,” said Chris Dudley, Director, Seneca HELIX. “This gift will give us the opportunity to transform participants into creative thinkers, designers, problem solvers, collaborators and communicators. It will also build up their resilience as they navigate the ever-changing employment landscape.”

The TD-HELIX Transformation Initiative will build on the growth of Seneca’s on-campus HELIX incubation hub, which is dedicated to developing intra-and-entrepreneurial mindsets. It will also offer HELIX the ability to disseminate its programming to Seneca’s global community of 200,000 alumni initially, and eventually to mid-career professionals in North Toronto, York Region, and beyond.

The TD Ready Challenge is a signature initiative, laddering up to The Ready Commitment, TD's new corporate citizenship platform, aimed at opening doors to a more inclusive and sustainable tomorrow. Acting as a springboard for social innovation, TD established the TD Ready Challenge to identify and support scalable solutions to a specific issue identified within the drivers of The Ready Commitment. In its inaugural year, the TD Ready Challenge encouraged organizations across North America to create scalable solutions to help increase income stability and give people the skills they need for the economy of the future. In total, TD awarded $10 million (CDN) for the 2018 Challenge.
