Michelle Hutt appointed Seneca’s Associate Vice-President, Academic

July 28, 2022

Michelle Hutt will join Seneca's senior academic leadership team as Associate Vice-President, Academic (AVPA) on Monday, Sept. 5, 2022.

For Michelle, this will be a return to Seneca after six years at Durham College, where she rose to the position of Associate Vice-President, Academic (Enrolment and International Education).

Michelle’s first position at Seneca was as a project co-ordinator in 1997, where she developed and implemented summer institute special interest community programming at King Campus. From there, she held several other administrative positions, including a secondment with the i3 and CRM projects that would transform the way Seneca does business.

In 2017, Durham College recruited Michelle to the position of associate dean, School of Business, IT & Management, where she implemented strategies contributing to student retention, led the development of new programs, oversaw the building of two academic facilities (Durham College Spa and Cisco Lab) and participated in successful international projects.

Michelle then progressed to the senior roles of executive dean of Science and Engineering Technology and her current AVPA role.

While at Durham, Michelle’s accomplishments have included formalizing enrolment monitoring activities, implementing new application and conversion strategies – generating a 15 percent increase in confirmations – and designing and implementing a holistic service delivery model for the Registrar’s Office, informed by lessons from the pandemic.

Michelle is a proud Seneca graduate (Tourism and Hospitality) and holds a bachelor’s degree in adult education from Brock University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Nipissing University.

Michelle will support Seneca's academic direction in her new role at Seneca, focusing on enrolment planning. She will also oversee the five-year program development plan and Seneca International Academy.
