Admission Requirements

  • Ontario university or college degree, or college diploma, or equivalent in fine art, 2D/3D animation, photography, film/video, architecture, or graphic design.
    Applicants with an equivalent combination of partial postsecondary and/or three to five years related work experience may be considered for admissions. A relevant resumé and references must be provided. 
  • Art portfolio
  • English proficiency for Graduate Certificate 

Canadian citizens or permanent residents educated outside of Canada must provide a World Education Services (WES) or ICAS Canada credential evaluation.

After you apply, you will receive details of how and when to complete the questionnaire and submit your portfolio.

Your portfolio should include a total of 14 traditional drawings, i.e. pencil, conté, ink, pastel or charcoal:

  • Six life drawings showing the entire body in various poses
  • Two drawings of your own hand.
  • Two object drawings, everyday items from around your home
  • Two environment drawings. Draw a two-point perspective view of a room in your house from opposite corners with a horizon line at five (5) feet.
  • Two drawings of your choice. Pieces of art that you feel reflect the quality and scope of your skills. 

Applicants are selected for admission based on the strength of their portfolio.


Although not required for admission, the following are recommended for your success in the program:

  • A background in one of more of the following: visual arts, classical animation, fine art, graphic design, or architecture/engineering or computer graphics
  • Experience with Windows operating systems
  • Additional experience with Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere or any 3D program.
