Michael Smith

Independent Songwriting and Performance

“I have performed and written songs ever since I was introduced to the blues in high school. Music is dessert for the soul.”

Michael developed and is the current co-ordinator of Seneca’s Independent Songwriting and Performance program. He also developed the school’s Independent Music Production program and served as that program’s first co-ordinator from 2004 to 2009. With a certification in Social Work and a graduate degree in Environmental Studies, Michael has taught, primarily, in the Social Sciences at Seneca since he was first hired as a faculty member in 1975. His love for performing and songwriting precipitated further studies in the areas of the “psychology of music” and the “art of songwriting”. He currently teaches introductory subjects in both of these disciplines.
