Barbara (Ondrusek) Caines is an award-winning journalist and journalism professor. Under her guidance, Seneca Journalism students have earned national awards, like the L.I.F.T. Award for teaching excellence presented by the Government of Ontario. Ms. Caines created the Summer Institute of Multiplatform Journalism at Seneca, a program which has been recognized worldwide, with graduates earning anchoring, cross-platform reporting and content producing positions in national and international markets including the United States, Brazil and France. She also helped create the current Journalism program. Ms. Caines was instrumental in developing an academic pathway for Seneca Journalism with the London College of Communication in England. She is currently working on collaborative online international learning projects with Artevelde University in Belgium.

Ms. Caines has earned numerous awards for her documentary reporting with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Some of her highlights include being named the country's first female sportscaster to host a daily program in a major market and being named Canada's first female sports director. Ms. Caines has also hosted Health Matters, CBC News, Newsworld and Newsworld International. Ms. Caines holds a degree from the University of Western Ontario.
