Applications of Strategic Intelligence

Subject Description
 In this course, students explore the application of strategic intelligence for different types and levels of analysis and operational planning. The course explores the ways intelligence is used across a range of disciplines. Students learn to discern between information and intelligence to support meaningful analyses and decision making for a variety of clients and stakeholders.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:


  1. Define the Intelligence Cycle to understand its limitations and opportunities.
  2. Differentiate between information, intelligence and the analytical processes required to produce strategic products in support of public safety.
  3. Examine the application of intelligence within public safety for both strategic and operational planning.
  4. Develop an intelligence collection plan and apply its use to both the strategic and operational levels.
  5. Design visual representations of analyses to create a conceptual model of intelligence analysis.
  6. Describe analytical end-products that are developed from intelligence for predictive analysis in support of both the strategic and operational levels.
  7. Examine ethical decision making for the dissemination of intelligence under a variety of circumstances.
  8. Analyze the relationship between crime and strategic intelligence.

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
