Subject Title
Windows Active Directory Services

Subject Description

This subject provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to install, configure, and administer Windows server 2019 Active Directory. Topics such as Implementing DNS to support Active Directory, Creating a Windows server 2019 Domain, Publishing Resources in Active Directory, Creating and managing Trees and Forests will be covered through lecture and hands-on exercises. The subject also focuses on the tasks required to implement Group Policy to centrally manage large numbers of users and computers.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this subject the student will be able to:

  1. Configure a forest or a domain. This objective may include but is not limited to: Implement multidomain and multi-forest Active Directory environments including interoperability with previous versions of Active Directory; upgrade existing domains and forests including environment preparation and functional levels; configure multiple user principal name (UPN) suffixes.
  1. Configure trusts. This objective may include but is not limited to: Configure external, forest, shortcut, and realm trusts; configure trust authentication; configure SID filtering; configure name suffix routing. 
  1. Configure sites. This objective may include but is not limited to: Configure sites and subnets; create and configure site links; manage site coverage; manage registration of SRV records; move domain controllers between sites. 
  1. Install and configure Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS). This objective may include but is not limited to: Install an Enterprise Certificate Authority (CA); configure CRL distribution points; install and configure Online Responder; implement administrative role separation; configure CA backup and recovery. Group Policy setting and deploy the scripts on domains. 
  1. Configure and manage users' desktop environments by using Group Policy 
  1. Implement Group Policy to centrally manage users and computers in a Windows Server network 
  1. Publish network resources in Active Directory to allow users to locate the resources and to allow centralized management of those resources 
  1. Delegate administrative control of Active Directory objects to decentralize administrative tasks in a Windows server 2019 network 
  1. Set up and administer domain user accounts and groups to enable users to gain access to resources in a Windows server 2019 network 
  1. Configure the Domain Name System (DNS) Server service on a computer running Windows server 2019 to support Active Directory 
  1. Implement an Active Directory infrastructure that is based on a directory services design provided by an enterprise architect 
  1. Manage and troubleshoot Active Directory replication within a site and between sites 
  1. Deploy and manage software by using Group Policy 
  1. Manage operations masters 
  1. Manage and restore the Active Directory database 
  1. Describe the logical and physical components of Windows server 2019 Active Directory 
  1. Create and manage trees and forests in a Windows server 2019 network, and administer forest-wide resources
     
  2. Create a Windows server 2019 domain by installing and configuring Active Directory, and implement an organizational unit (OU) structure

Camera Use and Recordings - Synchronous (Live) Classes
Synchronous (live) classes may be delivered in person, in a Flexible Learning space, or online through a Seneca web conferencing platform such as MS Teams or Zoom. Flexible Learning spaces are equipped with cameras, microphones, monitors and speakers that capture and stream instructor and student interactions, providing an in-person experience for students choosing to study online.

Students joining a live class online may be required to have a working camera in order to participate, or for certain activities (e.g. group work, assessments), and high-speed broadband access (e.g. Cable, DSL) is highly recommended. In the event students encounter circumstances that impact their ability to join the platform with their camera on, they should reach out to the professor to discuss. Live classes may be recorded and made available to students to support access to course content and promote student learning and success.
