SACHA – Seneca Veterinary Internship in Ecuador – Summer 2020

The Ecuadorian Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo (UEES) and Fundación Proyecto Sacha is pleased to welcome a Seneca student from the Veterinary Technician (VTE) diploma program to Guayaquil, Ecuador, for an internship in Summer 2020.

Fundación Proyecto Sacha has been in operation since 2018. It is a private initiative undertaken by Veterinary Mansion Mascota from Guayaquil, Ecuador, that provides veterinarian services to wild species. The goal of SACHA is to become a rehabilitation center for wild species that are eventually returned to their natural habitat. The initiative is endorsed by the Ministry of Environment of Ecuador, and its activities are made possible through public donations and private funding.

 

When Can I Go?

  • placements are for four to six weeks between April and June 2020
  • specific dates are confirmed based on the intern’s availability

 

Who Can Go?

  • current VTE students

 

What Will I be Doing?

  • interns will work to:
    • build animal enclosures
    • control and supervise medicines and supplies
    • assemble and recreate species’ natural habitats
    • clean and sanitize work spaces
    • feed animals with baby bottles or the type of food according to the species
    • help prepare food formulas
    • contribute in awareness and outreach of the organization’s work
    • learn about empathy, respect and rights of these animals
  • preferred Qualifications:
    • currently enrolled in VTE diploma program
    • demonstrated ability to adapt to challenging circumstances
    • a commitment to the project’s work
    • respect for the project cause
    • ability to be flexible and to adapt to changes

 

What Will it Cost?

  • students will be registered in VPL for the duration of their internship
  • students can expect to pay approximately US$500 per month for accommodation

 

Other Important Information?

  • the Ecuadorian Chamber of Commerce will assist students with on-site logistics such as accommodation, airport pick-up and ground transportation to and from their internship
  • UEES will provide additional oversight and support to the students during their internship placements
