The Ecuadorian Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Grand Hotel Guayaquil is pleased to welcome a Seneca student from the Hospitality – Hotel & Restaurant Services Management (HTM) program to Guayaquil, Ecuador, for an internship in Summer 2020.

The Grand Hotel Guayaquil is located in the heart of the city of Guayaquil and offers the traveller everything necessary for a pleasant stay. The hotel includes 181 spacious rooms, La Pepa de Oro restaurant, La Tortuga Bar, a business centre, Wi-Fi, room service and a convention center. In addition, for rest and recreation, there is a beautiful swimming pool that includes a waterfall and lush hanging garden, along with a racquet club terrace that offers two squash courts, a sauna, Turkish bath, full-equipment gym and billiard table.

• placements are for eight to 10 weeks between May and August 2020

Interns will circulate through the two positions and job duties listed below:

• front desk agent:
  • welcomes guests to the hotel
  • facilitates the guest check-in and check-out processes
  • handles all guest interactions with hospitality and professionalism
  • assure that front desk information sources are updated and current
  • establishes connections with local tourism vendors
  • processes credit card and cash transactions with guests
• food service:
  • performs all food service and beverage tasks according to hotel standards
  • greets, seats and serves customers
  • acquires in-depth knowledge of the food and beverage menu of the assigned outlet
  • consistently monitors quality of food and beverages being served
  • practices good customer relations and attends to customer complaints and queries
  • maintains hygiene and cleanliness standards, and upkeep of all service equipment
  • uses up-selling techniques to exceed guest expectations and increase revenue

• students will be registered in HTM250 for the duration of their internship
• students can expect to pay approximately US$500 per month for accommodation

• the Ecuadorian Chamber of Commerce will assist students with on-site logistics such as accommodation, airport pickup and ground transportation to and from their internship
• the Grand Hotel Guayaquil will provide interns with a uniform and lunch during their shift
