The Student Leadership Awards are financial awards presented to students in recognition of their leadership qualities in the classroom, on campus or in their local community.

ACL Student Benefits Leadership Award

ACL Student Benefits, the student health, dental and extended health plan insurance broker, presents two awards to students who have shown outstanding leadership. This award recognizes a student who is the "unsung hero", someone who quietly works behind the scenes to make Seneca a better place.

Alumni Student Leadership Award

Seneca Alumni has established an annual award for student government and club leaders. Applicants must have served two or more semesters as a volunteer leader as well as, demonstrated outstanding leadership in enhancing the quality of student life at Seneca.

Barb Morel Humanitarian Award

ACL Student Benefits, the student health, dental and extended health plan insurance broker is pleased to recognize the student who best exemplifies a ‘true humanitarian’ in all aspects of school and personal life. This award was established in memory of Barb Morel, a founding member of The Morel Group, the parent company of ACL Student Benefits, in honour of her many humanitarian endeavours.

Campus Living Centres Academic Award

Awarded to a full-time students currently living at either the Newnham or King Campus residences. The recipients must demonstrate his or her contribution to student life at Seneca through direct involvement in at least two of the following areas:

  • Social activities organized through recognized student bodies such as student governments, clubs and formalized residence groups
  • Sporting activities, such as intramurals, varsity athletics, and residence organized events
  • Academic and educational activities such as tutoring, organized study groups, educational campaigns, and fundraising initiatives

Daniel Atlin Leadership Award

Awarded to a full-time international student who demonstrates integrity and civic engagement inside or outside of Seneca. This award recognizes Daniel Atlin’s service to the Seneca Student Federation and Seneca in his role as Vice-President, Strategy & College Affairs from 2009 to 2015.

David & Lucas Thomson Perseverance Award

Awarded to a student who is involved in activities that focus on giving back, community building or enhancing student life at Seneca. Established by proud parents Linda and Tom Thomson to honour their sons who lead by example, demonstrate perseverance and prioritize acts of kindness.

Melina Hafez 

Grace Cuff Memorial Award

Awarded to a King Campus student who has gone above and beyond for the Seneca community and/or outside of Seneca. The recipient has devoted their time to helping others. Grace Cuff worked in Recruitment and Students Services at Seneca for over 30 years, inspiring and empowering students to go beyond what they thought was possible and achieve more than they ever thought they could. Throughout the years, Grace affected the Seneca community with her kindness, warmth, positive attitude and unwavering support for students.

King SAC Award

Prior to the incorporation of the Seneca Student Federation in 1999, the King Student Administrative Council established an award to assist students in second, third or fourth year of their program, and to assist graduating students. Students must demonstrate leadership qualities through active contributions to the development of the King Campus community.

Larry DeFlorio Leadership Award

This award was established in honour and memory of Larry DeFlorio, Seneca’s Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, Ontario Premier’s Award nominee, former faculty and co-ordinator of the Animation Arts Center (AAC), as a tribute to his vision, leadership, and contribution to Seneca life, students and alumni. The award is presented to a student in a program in the Animation Arts Centre within the School of Creative Arts & Animation.

Laura Flanagan Memorial Award (CNS, CTY, CTYC)

Established by the Computer Studies Student Council as a tribute to Laura Flanagan, Chair, School of Computer Studies, dedicated teacher and friend to all that knew her at Seneca. This award is open to any student currently enrolled in a full-time, daytime program in the CNS, CTY, CTYC, programs and have demonstrate a unique or outstanding contribution towards college life/student life or community work in a volunteer capacity.

Laura Flanagan Memorial Award (CPA, CPD, CPAC)

Established by the Computer Studies Student Council as a tribute to Laura Flanagan, Chair, School of Computer Studies, dedicated teacher and friend to all that knew her at Seneca. This award is open to any student currently enrolled in a full-time, daytime program in the CPA, CPD, CPAC programs and have demonstrate a unique or outstanding contribution towards college life/student life or community work in a volunteer capacity.

Laurel Schollen Leadership Scholarship

Laurel Schollen began her teaching career in 1982 and retired as Vice-President Academic 39 years later. An advocate for the public college system, Laurel is known for her insights, integrity, and commitment to students. This award is presented to a full-time student in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering Technology or School of Aviation. The recipient should have good academic achievement and demonstrated leadership and community involvement.

Marcia Donaldson Student Ambassador Award

The Marcia Donaldson Student Ambassador Award was created to recognize outstanding student ambassadors at Seneca. This award is named after Student Services Co-ordinator, Marcia Donaldson, to recognize her years of exceptional service and dedication to students. This award is available to students who are currently involved as a Student Ambassador and who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, teamwork and energy in this role, while maintaining good academic standing.

Margie Bader Mentoring Leadership Award

This award recognizes Margie Bader’s dedication and service to Seneca in her role as Program Coordinator for the SMILE Program from 2006 – 2019.

This award is presented to a student who has achieved high academic standing and demonstrated outstanding leadership in student life programming, including, but not limited to orientation, equity and diversity, service-learning, campus clubs, or initiatives of a cultural or artistic nature on campus or within their community.

UWCNY 70th Anniversary Leadership Scholarship

Awarded to a student leader who champions causes related to the betterment or representation of women or girls at Seneca or the community. Established to celebrate the University Women’s Club of North York’s 70th anniversary and to honour the dedicated club leaders and volunteers over the past seven decades.

Vicki Milligan-Carter Leadership Award

The Vicki Milligan Carter Leadership Award was created by the SSF Inc. to honour a long-time employee of Seneca on the date of her retirement. A former faculty member, Departmental Chair, Director of Student Services and voting member on the SSF Inc. Board of Directors, Vicki's zest to improve student life, assist anyone in need and to make Seneca a better place spoke volumes of her commitment to everything Seneca.

Wayne Norrison Leadership Award

The Seneca Student Federation Incorporated created this award to recognize and honour Wayne Norrison, retired Seneca Vice-President, International and Business Development for his many years of outstanding leadership and support for the SSF Inc. the award recognizes leadership related to student life at Seneca. The award is presented to a student who demonstrates outstanding leadership in the enhancement of student life at Seneca and has achieved high academic standing throughout the semester.

Stephen E. Quinlan Award

The Seneca Student Federation Inc. created this award to recognize and honour retired President, Stephen E. Quinlan. A large trophy with the name of each year's winner will be displayed at Seneca. The award recognizes a student that displays high academic achievement, has made a significant contribution to assisting other students in a voluntary capacity; contributes to assisting others in the community beyond Seneca; and demonstrates strong personal integrity, sound character and tenacity.
