Welcome to Fall 2020 Virtual Orientation

Orientation is to help you get ready for your upcoming studies at Seneca. We are excited to be able to connect with you virtually, provide the support you need and share how you can get actively involved while studying remotely.

 

Getting Started for ALL New Students

Friday, Sept. 11

If you are new to Seneca, you will want to join us for Virtual Orientation on Friday, Sept. 11, 2020. We will host four chat rooms with all the supports available to you as you prepare to start Seneca.

  1. Before You Begin – join this room to learn about what you need to do before you start your remote studies
  2. Your First Week – join this room to learn what you should do during your first week to ensure you are successful in your remote studies
  3. Success Beyond Week 1 – join this room to learn about how to get involved after your first week, once you are settled into your schedule and classes
  4. Questions & Answers – join this room to ask any other questions that have not been answered in the three other rooms

All rooms will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, on Friday, Sept. 11, 2020.

Preparing to Study for International Students

Friday, Aug. 21

If you are an international student starting at Seneca in September, you will also want to join us for Virtual International Orientation on Friday, Aug. 21, 2020. This specially focused orientation is to help support, better inform and prepare you before our Orientation for all new students on Sept. 11. Three areas specific to International students will be highlighted:

  1. Admissions – join this room to ask questions about your offer of admission and next steps
  2. Health Insurance, Visas & Immigration – join this room to learn about health insurance, visas and immigration details for moving to Canada to study at Seneca
  3. Student Life – join this room to learn about studying at Seneca, how to get involved remotely, and have your questions answered about class registration

All rooms will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, on Friday, Aug. 21, 2020.

Services and Supports Drop-in Sessions

Sept. 14 to 25

Almost every day during the school week in September, there will be drop-in sessions for you to learn about the many services and supports available to students. See our Orientation calendar for our services and supports spotlights and drop-in sessions.

All sessions take place twice daily, at 9 a.m. EST and 4 p.m. EST and can be accessed by joining the Student Life Webex room by clicking here.

 

Learning Online

Sept. 14 to 25

You will be studying remotely for the fall 2020 term and your professors will use one of four online learning platforms: Blackboard Collaborate, Microsoft Teams, Big Blue Button and Cisco WebEx. You can learn about these platforms at sessions hosted by Information Technology Services throughout the first two weeks of classes.

Before attending a session, use the links below to download and install that session’s platform software so you can join and participate fully:

All sessions will take place twice daily, at 10 a.m. EST and 2 p.m. EST on the following schedule:

  • Mondays: Blackboard Collaborate
  • Tuesdays: Microsoft Teams
  • Wednesdays: Big Blue Button
  • Thursdays: Cisco WebEx

Learn about Seneca, your classmates and the services and supports available to you throughout the month of September. See our Orientation calendar for our services and supports spotlights and drop-in sessions.
