New Scholarship in memory of “selfless, caring” Seneca Flight graduate

Toronto, December 21, 2010 —Torres Media has agreed to establish the “Andrew Archer Memorial Scholarship” at Seneca’s School of Aviation and Flight Technology. This scholarship is a tribute to 23-year-old Seneca graduate Andrew “Andy” Archer, who died, tragically, in a flying accident in June 2010.

Torres has pledged an annual commitment from 2011 through 2015 to provide a $1,000 scholarship for a graduate of Seneca’s degree program in Flight. The recipient will demonstrate a love of flying; excellence in practical flying skills; a willingness to motivate others and act as a mentor; and mission completion attributes.

The criteria for this award have been developed to mirror those qualities Andy possessed. He discovered his love of flying when he was 13, and dedicated himself to his craft fully while at Seneca.

“Andy touched so many of us with his selflessness and dedication,” said Frank Torres, Operations Director, Torres Media. “It is fitting that after his passing he is still helping fellow students that share his love of and devotion to flying. The Andrew Archer Memorial Scholarship will continue to support students in his name and spirit.”

The inaugural Andrew Archer Memorial Scholarship will be presented at Seneca’s student awards ceremony in spring 2011, and the recipient will also be honoured at the School of Aviation and Flight Technology’s annual graduation ceremony.

“A tragedy such as this affects so many, so deeply,” said Dominic Totino, Director of Academics at the School of Aviation and Flight Technology. “In its wake, it is inspiring and heart warming to see Torres Media make this commitment to honour Andy’s memory and support the outstanding flight students that are following their passion, just as Andy did.”
