A virtual reality (VR) project aimed at improving public speaking won this year's King Township Women of Influence Giving Circle $10,000 grant this week.
“We are so excited for the opportunity to provide this tool to students,” said Shelia Bruce, Career-Ready Programming Manager, Seneca Works. “There is no doubt that this will benefit all students across King Campus. With 68 per cent of programs offered at King Campus having experiential learning components, there's a great need to provide such tools to our students and help them succeed.”
Members of the Giving Circle voted on four projects from various academic areas at King Campus. After much deliberation, they chose to support the VR project, which will see specialized training units installed at King to allow students to recreate key interactions such as panel interviews and elevator pitches in a VR training simulation.
The other projects included a community garden aimed at providing sustainable food solutions, using technology to support adults with development disorders and using sound reducing technology to improve the quality of life for animals at King Campus. Each pitch was designed to benefit students and employees at King Campus.
The King Township Women of Influence Giving Circle is composed of women from King Township or who have an affinity to Seneca’s King Campus who want to give back to the community and make a difference. In the coming year the Giving Circle will gather again at King Campus to see firsthand the impact of their generosity. It is empowered philanthropy done in a fun and social way.
