The I-Care Project: Bringing New Meaning to Eye Care

In 2022, Seneca Polytechnic launched the I-Care Project in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica and the ONESIGHT EssilorLuxottica Foundation, with the aim of educating the Seneca community on the importance of preventing sight loss and prioritizing vision health. This innovative initiative also provides access to vision screening and comprehensive eye exams for the Seneca community, making eye care accessible to all.

Led by staff and faculty from the Opticianry diploma program, the I-Care Project offers valuable hands-on experiential learning opportunities for Opticianry students, helping them prepare for careers as eye care practitioners. Additionally, members of the Seneca community can receive vision screening and comprehensive eye exams performed by licensed optometrists in the cutting-edge refraction lab located at the Newnham Campus.

Starting in May 2023, the I-Care Project will launch at Seneca's Yorkgate Campus, specifically targeting an equity-seeking group and vulnerable community. This expansion demonstrates Seneca's commitment to reaching underserved populations and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, has access to quality eye care.

According to statistics, 5.5 million Canadians currently live with uncorrected poor vision. Seneca is committed to ensuring that all students have access to proper health care, enabling them to succeed in their studies and future careers.

One of the key factors that makes the I-Care Project truly impactful is the generosity of its donors. EssilorLuxottica, ONESIGHT EssilorLuxottica Foundation, McCray Optical, Mood Eyewear, and the Ontario Opticians Association have provided generous support, making the I-Care Project barrier-free for Seneca students.

Through the I-Care Project, Seneca is not only promoting eye health and preventing vision loss, but also providing valuable learning opportunities for Opticianry students and fostering a culture of caring within the Seneca community. By prioritizing vision health and making eye care accessible to all, Seneca is taking a proactive approach to ensure the success and well-being of its students.

The I-Care Project is a shining example of Seneca's commitment to equity and providing experiential learning for all. By partnering with industry leaders and donors, Seneca is making a positive impact on the lives of its students and the broader community. Together, we can create a future where everyone has access to quality eye care, and where vision health is prioritized and protected. Join us in supporting the I-Care Project and be a part of this meaningful initiative to bring new meaning to eye care.
