FAQs about supporting Seneca

Is Seneca a charitable organization?

Yes. The College’s charitable donation number is 10796 7168 RR0001.

Do I get a charitable tax receipt for my donation?

Yes. For all cash donations above $20, a tax receipt will be mailed to you. Receipts for accepted and appraised gifts-in-kind are issued as well. Online donations will instantly receive a tax receipt through e-mail.

Who do I speak with to set up an award for Seneca students?

You are welcome contact the Office of Advancement to speak with one of our Senior Development Officers. Contact information for the officers can be found here

What is an endowment?

An endowment is a transfer of money or property donated to an institution, where the principal remains intact in perpetuity or for a specified period of time. Funds generated through interest accrued from the endowment are used to finance bursaries and scholarships.

What portion of my gift goes to support students?

There are no administrative costs associated with your gift, and therefore every dollar goes directly to students in need.

What is the difference between a scholarship and a bursary?

As bursary is provided to students who demonstrate financial need, while a scholarship is awarded based on academic or athletic merit.

I would like to include Seneca in my will. What do I need to do?

To include Seneca in your estate planning, you first need to consult with one of our Senior Development officers. Please see more information about legacy giving.

Can I decide how my contribution is distributed within the College?

Yes. You can designate how your gift is designated. If you choose not to, your contribution will be provided to the area of greatest financial need within the College.

How does the College determine where donations are distributed?

All requests for funding are developed by the various departments within the College, and vetted by the College’s Senior Executive in accordance with the College’s Strategic Plan and the areas of greatest need.

Does Seneca accept all gifts it receives?

Seneca solicits gifts based on the College’s demonstrated fundraising priorities. If a gift does not fall under these priorities, the College will work with the donor to find a mutually beneficial giving alternative.

Am I able to give anonymously?

Yes. You can opt out of any public recognition for your contribution.

Does Seneca sell, trade or rent donor contact information to third parties?

No. Your privacy and the security of your contact information is our top priority. We do not share any of your information with external parties.

I am interested in volunteering. How can I get involved?

There are many ways support Seneca students through volunteerism. Please view News and Events for a list of activities and contact us to discuss available options.
