Sun Life Financial shines in its continued commitment to Seneca students

Fitness and Health Promotion Students

Financial support for Financial Planning and Fitness and Health Promotion students aligns with company’s philanthropic and community-focused goals

Sun Life Financial has been a longstanding partner of Seneca. The more than 150-year-old Canadian financial services company with approximately 30,000 employees is undeniably committed to serving, supporting and building healthier communities.

In addition to a high-profile partnership with the NBA’s Toronto Raptors in support of healthy and active living, Sun Life also delivers community-focused initiatives such as its Team Up Against Diabetes™ platform and its award-winning Making the Arts More Accessible™ program. Sun Life employees and advisors also volunteer over 29,000 hours each year and contribute to making a positive impact for individuals and families across the country.

At Seneca, Sun Life’s generosity will provide much needed support to students including the next generation of financial services as well as fitness and health promotion talent including a total of 13 new awards created to address financial barriers to postsecondary education.

“Sun Life understands that in order to complete their studies at Seneca and pursue the many industry standard licenses and certifications needed to launch their careers, sometimes our students need a helping hand,” says Karen Murkar, Chair, Seneca’s School of Accounting and Financial Services. “By supporting them through financial aid, Sun Life is demonstrating its commitment to strengthening communities, one professional at a time.”

Seneca’s Fitness and Health Promotion program, which is moving from Seneca’s Newnham Campus in North Toronto to our expanded and revitalized King Campus, later this fall, is also a beneficiary of Sun Life’s contribution. Gary Galbraith, Chair, Seneca’s School of Recreation and Wellness says the awards created by Sun Life have the power to alter the trajectory of a student’s career.

“We are deeply appreciative of the opportunities for student success created by this generous support from Sun Life,” says Galbraith. “These awards will help exceptional students with financial challenges to achieve their academic and professional goals in the Fitness and Health Promotion program.”

By investing in health and financial planning educational programs, Sun Life says it can help create more vibrant and sustainable communities.

“We’re proud to play a role in helping well-deserving young people as they pursue their dreams and goals. The sky is the limit in the meaningful difference they will make in our communities,” says Paul Joliat, Assistant Vice-President, Philanthropy and Sponsorships, Sun Life Financial. “At Sun Life, our Purpose is to help our clients achieve lifetime financial security and live healthier lives. Through the Sun Life Financial Achievement Awards, recipients have the opportunity to pursue postsecondary programs in the areas of Fitness and Health and Financial Planning – contributing to a brighter future for them and our communities.”
