Experiential learning that benefits the community
Seneca 360 provides opportunities for graduate-level Seneca students to work directly as pro bono project managers and service providers for not-for-profit organizations that otherwise could not afford this level of professional work.
Seneca 360 has the potential to provide hundreds of Seneca students with direct exposure to the work of not-for-profit organizations and the communities they support. In turn, this initiative offers critical resources to not-for-profit organizations at no charge, and Seneca students gain invaluable hands-on experience, allowing them to enter the workforce with relevant experience. Seneca 360 services available to not-for-profit partners include:
- Web design
- IT support
- Graphic design
- Social media
- Event management
- Evaluation/strategic planning
- Volunteer/fundraising co-ordination
- Office administration (human resources, strategy development)
To date, 10 Seneca 360 projects have taken place, with the total value of work delivered at $68,500.
One such project was the planning and execution of the Massey Centre for Women’s annual “Cook for New Lives” gala. Seneca’s Event and Media Production students created and executed all production elements for the event that raised almost $50,000 in support of the most critical needs of the pregnant and parenting adolescents and their babies living at the Centre.
“The Seneca 360 team were professional from start to finish,” says Amy Davies, Associate Director, CFC Media Lab and Board Member, Massey Centre for Women. “Students built a customized package for Massey Centre's Cook for New Lives Gala fundraiser including staging, lighting and AV production for the entire night. Thanks to the team, the guest experience was elevated, and we cannot thank them enough.”
Seneca is looking for support from the charitable and corporate sectors to enable this program to become self-supporting. Funds would help Seneca to provide financial support to the students while they are working on consulting projects, such as travel, childcare and academic financial aid.
