Awards banquet honours Seneca varsity athletes
Seneca held its annual Athletics Banquet at the Hilton Suites Toronto-Markham Conference Centre on April 6 to honour the College’s top varsity athletes.
This year's Male and Female Athlete of the Year honours went to Kailen Murphy and Sabrina Henry.
Kailen, a fourth year men’s soccer forward, was rewarded for his outstanding efforts and leadership on-and-off the pitch this season. The Fire Protection student finished third in league scoring with seven goals in eight regular season games. He was named a Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian, an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) All-Star and the 2010 OCAA Men’s Soccer Player of the Year. Kailen also led the Sting to the OCAA Men’s Soccer East Division title and a bronze medal.
Sabrina Henry, a fourth-year women’s soccer player, was name a CCAA All Canadian this season. The striker/defender, who is studying in the Child and Youth Worker program, was also selected for the OCAA Women’s Soccer All-Star team. Under her leadership, the Sting finished the regular season with a 6-2-0 record and an astonishing six shutouts and five goals against in eight games.
