The Seneca Experience

Why did you decide to study Accounting & Finance at Seneca?

I decided to study at Seneca as it was the only college that offered my first-choice program in Aviation. I was later encouraged by one of my professors who was impressed by my math skills to consider the Accounting & Finance advanced diploma program. I applied and got accepted as I yearned for a better life for myself and my children.

How would you describe your experience at Seneca?

My experience at Seneca has exceeded my expectations. The professors are knowledgeable in each of their disciplines and incorporated real life examples to engage discussions and enhance our learning. The campus and classrooms were always clean, and classes were arranged, so that students had time to study and work part-time.

What was your most memorable experience at Seneca?

My most memorable experience at Seneca was graduating from the Accounting & Finance program with high honours and knowing that my family locally and overseas were celebrating my success.

Going from Diploma to a Degree

What influenced your decision to continue your education after completing your diploma?

My decision to continue my education came from my children. I wanted them to know that regardless of what happens in life, the choice to be a better version of their current self can be achieved with hard work.

I have started on many journeys but stopped along the way due to circumstances whether financial or family related. I promised myself that if I’m able to complete my degree despite the challenges, then I can complete any other task that seemed impossible.

How did the Accounting & Finance advanced diploma prepare you for the Honours Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting & Finance degree?

The diploma program played a huge role in preparing me for a successful transition into the degree program. The diploma courses are fundamental. I was able to transfer into the Honours Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting & Finance degree program in semester six, thus finishing my degree faster.

What advantage do you see in having both a diploma and degree?

I believe that having both the diploma and the degree gives me an advantage in terms of meeting entry requirements for a variety of positions from entry-level to managerial within the accounting and finance industry.
