The Opticians Association of Canada and the Ontario Opticians Association have continued to support five students within the Seneca Opticianry program.

Thanks to a very generous donation from the Opticians Association of Canada (OAC) and the Ontario Opticians Association (OOA), five students in Seneca’s Opticianry program will receive financial support during the 2022-23 academic year.

“Education and training are key for the future of the opticianry industry,” said Martin Lebeau, Deputy Executive Director, OOA.

Tatiana Mighiu, Seneca Opticianry Program Co-ordinator, agrees, and stresses the importance of financial aid.

“We know that providing financial aid for our students removes another barrier for them,” she said. “Instead of having to work more hours to pay for basic needs, such as rent and food, they can focus on their studies.”

Professor Mighiu goes on to explain that she’s seen a positive impact on students’ mental health when they receive financial aid.

“Having someone believe in you gives you that little bump in confidence,” she said. “Students are motivated when they feel supported.”

Opticianry student, and financial aid recipient Mahshad knows this positive feeling well.

“I am very thankful for having received financial aid,” Mahshad said. “My main focus is on my courses right now, which gives me less time to work.”
