Teaching English as a Second Language 2 (TESL 2)

Prerequisite: A university degree, successful completion of TESL 1 (ELI 317)
TESL 2 (ELI 321) is the second and final module of the TESL Training program offered by the English Language Institute. Successful completion of both modules entitles students to a Seneca Certificate of Standing in Teaching English as a Second Language: TESL 2. Program outcomes for TESL 2 meet the standards set by TESL Ontario and by TESL Canada for TESL Canada Standard 2. Graduates seeking TESL Ontario Certification and TESL Canada Standard 2 certification must apply directly to TESL Ontario and TESL Canada.
ELI 321 is the second and final module of the TESL Training program offered by the English Language Institute. Participants receive a minimum of 150 hours of intensive classroom instruction and 10 hours of supervised practice teaching. The training, which builds on the practical knowledge and skills acquired in ELI 317, explores more thoroughly such important topics as second language acquisition models, developing learner’s communicative competence, student-centered teaching techniques, testing and alternative assessment, learning strategies, advanced language skill development, and technology enhanced language learning.
