Overview

Seneca's ESL Speaking English courses provide you with the opportunity to expand your speaking skills. You will develop spoken fluency and accuracy using conversational grammar in general everyday situations, including reacting and responding within a Canadian cultural context. Conversational grammar learned in each class is given meaning through guided practice and interaction with other students. This promotes and supports additional, valuable and highly transferable communicative skills, such as listening, observing, decision making and understanding, which will allow you to have meaningful, dynamic conversations both inside and outside of the classroom.

Get started by registering for an English Assessment (ELL100) to ensure correct level placement.

Whether you take just one course or progress through a few, Seneca's ESL Pathways recognize achievements with proficiency Microcredentials (Recognition of Achievements).

To enrol in an English or ESL course at Seneca each student must have an English Assessment.

Speaking English Level III

  3. Express ability, permission, advice, possibility, and opinions using appropriate modals

  2. Tell stories and ask questions using past simple
  3. Open and close a conversation using present perfect or past simple
  4. Describe an object and speculate about the present and the future using modals
  5. Express comparisons
  6. Manage a conversation and make invitations and suggestions
  7. Communicate at an appropriate level in spoken English through class activities and active participation

Accent Reduction - Advanced

Prerequisite(s):

Advanced level ESL speaker

This advanced level Accent Reduction course is designed for students who are fluent in English but wish to acquire a more standardized North American speech pattern. The second level of Accent Reduction emphasizes the development of sound production, rhythm, stress and intonation patterns in "real life" communicative contexts.
