Portuguese is a Romance language spoken by over 200 million people, mainly in Brazil and Portugal, and also in Angola, Mozambique (Moçambique), Macau and other areas of the world.

Portuguese and Spanish languages are the fastest-growing European languages, and, according to UNESCO, Portuguese is the language with the highest possibilities for growth in southern Africa and South America. Portuguese will help students in their understanding the other Latin languages like Italian, Spanish and French.

Students will learn interesting cultural aspects of the Portuguese language (e.g. use of greetings, introductions), and also recognize the contributions of the Portuguese culture to Canada and the world.
