Student Work Placement Program (SWPP)

Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) is a WIL funding opportunity from the Government of Canada. Employers can apply for wage subsides to help them hire postsecondary students. Employers may receive a wage subsidy:

  • up to $5,000 for every student hired through the program
  • up to $7,000 for every student hired that is in their first year of study or is from an underrepresented group including:
    • women in STEM
    • persons with disabilities
    • newcomers to Canada
    • Indigenous students
    • visible minorities

Recruitment and Qualifying Criteria for SWPP:

  1. The employer must be a registered Canadian business organization and not a federal or provincial government organization.
  2. The student is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a protected person defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
  3. The student is registered in a full-time program with a postsecondary institution.
  4. The student should not be an international student and/or on a work permit.
  5. The final decision lies with the SWPP funding partner.
