Why did you choose to pursue the Business Administration – International Business advanced diploma program at Seneca?

I chose to pursue this program specifically because of the possibility to bridge into the Honours Bachelor of Commerce – International Business Management degree program.

What made you decide to pursue the business field? Was business something you always knew you would pursue a career in?

I wanted to go into business because I saw it as both a stepping stone to pursuing an MBA or law degree, as well as nurturing my entrepreneurial spirit. Business skills are necessary no matter what one ends up doing in life, and I figured that no matter what career I ended up pursuing, the skills and knowledge I gained throughout would help me in it.

Why did you choose the pathway to the Honours Bachelor of Commerce – International Business Management degree?

Having a higher level of education is always an asset. While I was proud of having completed the advanced diploma program, I knew that if I wanted to advance faster in my career and open the door to grad school, I would need a bachelor’s degree. Therefore, my only option was to pursue the bachelor’s degree.

How did your Seneca diploma prepare you for your bachelor’s degree?

I found it prepared me well for the degree program. There was a natural progression between the program and where the BAB course material left off and BMI material picked up. I found the BMI degree to be somewhat more intensive both in grading and content, but this was to be expected.

How has your overall experience at Seneca been?

My overall experience at Seneca was wonderful. I found the professors to be kind, caring and knowledgeable. I also found that the course content was relevant to my interest in international commerce.

What advice do you have for other students who may be looking to pathway after completing their diploma?

I would advise any student looking to pathway to speak to other students who have also done so, and to be in contact with their academic advisers. Admission requirements for pathways often change and in my case, I was entitled to more exemption credits than I was originally aware of. Avoid situations like this by verifying with your academic advisers (or with the Academic Pathways team) what the most up-to-date information is.

What do your short-term and long-term goals look like?

In the short term, I am looking to get my foot in the workforce in a field related to business. In the long term, I hope to be more entrepreneurial and run my own company. Being the master of my own destiny is valuable to me.

What are you up to now?

Currently, I am applying to jobs and interviewing for them. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, I have found that there are many opportunities to be found out there. With this being said, I am on the job hunt daily.
