About the Youth to Postsecondary (Y2P) Program

Y2P is a government-funded program for residents of Ontario. Canadian citizens and permanent residents aged 18-30 who pass the assessment test are accepted with proof of Ontario residency. Protected persons, convention refugees and refugee claimants are also accepted with proof of residency but must have a valid study permit to be enrolled.

Y2P courses are mostly pre-Academic Upgrading credits so they will prepare a student to be successful in Academic Upgrading courses. The only Y2P course that counts towards the ACE credential is the Communication and Self-Management course. If a student transferred to/from another school, the ACE credentials would transfer. This does not include any prerequisites taken prior to the ACE credentials.

Y2P intakes are in January and September. Y2P courses run on the same schedule as college courses. They are 14 weeks long and there is a mid-term study week.

Classes are held between 9am and 6pm during the week.

We moved the Y2P courses back in person this Fall and we are hoping to run them in Flexible delivery mode in the winter so that students can choose to come to class in person or attend the classes virtually.

It depends on the applicant’s goal program and the courses they are missing and need to upgrade. Y2P typically takes 1-2 semesters and then students can move on to Academic Upgrading if they need additional credits. The full length of their time at Y2P or AU depends on their time commitment and end goal. Note that many students also take a semester off for work or personal matters and are welcome to return the next term.

Our program is always open to students. If you miss the deadline for the current semester, you can contact us to enroll in the following one.

It is a tuition free program as it is funded by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

Important - campus update:

To enhance the student experience, all academic programs currently offered at Yorkgate Campus will be moved as of the Fall 2024 Term.

We are working with government on the relocation of the Academic Upgrading and Youth to Postsecondary programs. Details will be shared as soon as they are available.

Most students take English, Math, FLM (Film) and CSM (Communication and Self-Management).

Computers is an optional introductory course that is recommended to those who are not confident with using technology.
