John Goodwin

Chair, School of Creative Arts & Animation and Director, Seneca Film Institute

John Goodwin is the Chair of Seneca Polytechnic’s School of Creative Arts & Animation and Director of the Seneca Film Institute.

Mr. Goodwin previously worked at Durham College, where for five years he served as head, creative/technology of the Mixed-Reality Capture Studio and led significant innovations in the screen-based industries. In addition to directing the strategic vision, industry partnerships and capital budget for the studio, he led the implementation of a next-generation, real-time motion capture stage. For several years, Mr. Goodwin was also a professor and program co-ordinator of Durham College’s Game – Art program, which he revamped to align more closely with industry needs. And in response to the pandemic, he collaborated with IT to convert the labs to cloud-based computing centres.

Prior to his postsecondary career, Mr. Goodwin was the owner and creative director for the Pixel Canvas Design Studio, a new media consultancy for small- and medium-sized businesses, specializing in online branding and marketing. He holds a master of education from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.
