Martha Newbigging

Art Fundamentals, Illustration

Martha Newbigging is a visual and media artist working within practices of illustration, comics and animation. They have illustrated more than a dozen children’s books (Annick Press, Kids Can Press, Owl Books) and their animated films have been screened internationally. Newbigging teaches in the Illustration program and is the Program Co-ordinator of the Art Fundamentals program at Seneca Polytechnic. As a doctoral candidate at York University, Newbigging’s practice-based research focuses on autobiographical drawing, research-creation, queer subjectivity in childhood and comics-making for critical pedagogy. They have contributed to Journal of Illustration (UK), European Comics Journal (Belgium), Nat Brut (US) and Conundrum (Canada).
