Where We Are Going

Educational institutions play a special role in building a more equitable world. We are many things — an employer, a teacher, a gathering place, social venue and community space — and we have unique opportunities to offer mentorship and support, modelling examples by what we do, how we do it and the environment we create for teaching and learning.

As part of Seneca Au Large, we are working to build the equitable Seneca, free of systemic racism and discrimination.

Everyone is responsible for equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives for students and employees to be integrated successfully at Seneca.

Whether it’s better representation in our classroom and curriculum, resources for students in need, accessibility for all or ensuring everyone’s rights are recognized, there is much work to be done.

Seneca has accepted the challenge and we need your help. We invite your ideas as we work together to build the equitable Seneca.

Who We Are

At Seneca, we are a global community of many races, religions, genders, sexual orientations and ethnicities. We bring countless experiences, abilities, ways of learning and cultural backgrounds.

Our community has also experienced discrimination, abuse and barriers to education and security. This motivates us to be change-makers. To say we will do better.

Together, we share a common objective to build a better world for everyone. This is shown in the many ways we give back to our students and communities. We tell our stories proudly and engage in conversations and take action to influence change.

We are #SenecaProud of who we are and the positive difference we make.

What We Do

Education is a game-changer for individuals and their families. We want to ensure that a great Seneca education is in reach for anyone and everyone looking to pursue it.

We also want to make sure that everyone at Seneca feels welcome, seen, heard and supported inside and outside the classroom. This isn’t always easy and it is always a work in progress.

Each day, we make a collective effort to remove barriers to education, recognize our differences and create a healthy, safe and inclusive learning and working environment.

Our events, workshops and celebrations help bring our community together.

Resources

Seneca offers various supports and services, in person and online, to help you in times of need and to add to your Seneca experience.

Financial Aid Awards, Scholarships and Bursaries for Equity-Deserving Groups

Access to postsecondary education is not equal for everyone. Students from equity-deserving groups often face barriers, including systemic racism and inequities. One of those barriers is not having the financial resources to pay for their education. Seneca is committed to ensuring that education is within reach, especially for racialized, gender and/or sexually diverse students and those with a disability.

As part of our journey to an equitable Seneca, and with the support of the Seneca community and donors, we have established financial aid awards, bursaries and scholarships for equity-deserving groups. To address financial need and to celebrate academic excellence, financial aid is available for those who identify as Black, Indigenous (First Nations, Métis and Inuit), 2SLGBTQ+ and those with a disability. We look forward to the opportunity to expand the financial aid program to include more equity-deserving groups in the future.
