Seneca first Ontario college to receive Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance (ACAF) program accreditation

CPA Ontario accreditation of the Advanced Accounting and Finance program reinforces Seneca’s long-standing reputation for accounting excellence

Toronto – Sept. 12, 2017 - Seneca is the first college in Ontario to receive accreditation by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA Ontario) under the CPA National Accreditation Standards for the Advanced Certificate in Accounting and Finance (ACAF) program and applied courses.

CPA Accreditation was received for the School of Accounting & Financial Services’ new Ontario College Graduate Certificate program: Advanced Accounting and Finance (AAF), which was developed specifically to align with the ACAF program.

The Seneca AAF program supports continued development of accounting students’ technical proficiencies in areas such as financial and management accounting, taxation, information systems, audit and assurance. The program also ensures that graduates are equipped with the competencies employers demand including professional and business ethics, as well as communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills.

CPA Ontario’s accreditation of the Seneca program allows successful graduates to write the CPA profession’s national ACAF examination immediately.

“Accreditation by CPA Ontario means that Seneca’s AAF students can complete all of the ACAF technical and applied courses in just eight months,” said Karen Murkar, Chair of the School of Accounting and Financial Services. “This accreditation builds on Seneca’s existing strength in accounting and finance and highlights the quality of our accounting programs. “

“Since the inception of the ACAF program, the CPA profession has partnered with postsecondary institutions. This partnership has proven effective and, in light of its success, the profession has concluded that the postsecondary institutions are well positioned to deliver the entire program.” said Richard Piticco, CPA, CA, CFA, Vice-President, Student Services at CPA Ontario. “Seneca’s formal submission demonstrates its commitment to developing and delivering a quality ACAF program that meets the needs for talent in Ontario."
