Seneca teams up with global tech leader Cognizant to address IT skills gap

Training aimed at enhancing job opportunities in Greater Toronto Area

Toronto, July 25, 2018 – Seneca is partnering with Cognizant, one of the world’s leading technology and business services companies, to launch a new custom training program focused on in-demand digital technology skills.  The program is designed to help boost local employment opportunities by enhancing the skills of current IT professionals and providing training for individuals seeking new careers in technology.  The announcement was officially made by company and local officials during a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony at Cognizant’s new regional technology and services delivery centre in Mississauga.

“We are delighted to partner with Cognizant to bring relevant IT skills training to the Mississauga community,” said Ranjan Bhattacharya, Seneca’s Dean, Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering Technology, Seneca. “We are proud to play a role in providing education for in-demand skills and new opportunities for economic mobility to individuals from often overlooked communities.”

“As a large technology employer, Cognizant cares deeply about workforce development in our communities – both for today and tomorrow,” said Allen Shaheen, Executive Vice President, North America Regional Delivery Centers, Cognizant.   “The forward-thinking educators and administration at Seneca are ideal partners for this new training program.  A desire to continuously learn new skills is a great equalizer in life - and an ideal route for individuals to reach their full potential.  We hope this reskilling initiative will expand the number of qualified technology workers in the region, as well as provide new career opportunities for area residents.”

Scheduled to begin this fall, the program will have the option of being offered onsite at Cognizant’s Mississauga delivery centre, or at Seneca. Courses will focus on digital, infrastructure, testing and application management services.
