Appointment of Mohamed Dhanani, Vice-President, Stakeholder Engagement and Business Development

From Seneca President David Agnew

March 28, 2022

A greater focus on business development is an important part of the Au Large renewal of Seneca. With increased competition for students and declining government grants, developing alternative revenue sources and forging stronger relationships with industry, government and community has added urgency in the post-pandemic world.

To lead our work in external engagement and partnerships, today I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mohamed Dhanani to the newly created position of Vice-President, Stakeholder Engagement and Business Development.

Mohamed Dhanani

In this role, Mohamed will be working with all areas of Seneca to develop and expand partnerships with our external stakeholders. His priorities include:

  • Establishing and growing strategic partnerships with industry, civic agencies and government
  • Supporting and advising on business development activities with a focus on revenue generation
  • Overseeing our government relations activities at all levels of government
  • Helping build relationships with the local communities surrounding our campuses.

Mohamed brings expertise and experience in all these areas.

He joins Seneca from Ryerson University where he is the Executive Director, External and International Partnerships at the Ted Rogers School of Management. Prior to that, he was Special Advisor to Ryerson’s President. He was instrumental in securing $160 million in provincial and municipal funding for Ryerson’s new campus in Brampton and helping raise private and public sector funding for the Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst.

Before joining Ryerson, Mohamed was Executive Officer of the Aga Khan Council for Canada; Vice-President at Hill & Knowlton; Strategy Advisor to the Deputy Premier of Ontario; and a management consultant at PwC. He also has a successful track record as an entrepreneur.

Mohamed has served as chair of the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network, was on the boards of Waterfront Toronto and the Flemingdon Park Food Bank and was part of Mayor John Tory’s transition team. He is currently part of a team developing a not-for-profit 400-unit affordable housing project with a 128-bed nursing home in Toronto.

Mohamed has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Ryerson and earned a Master's in Public Health from Yale, where he graduated with distinction. He is also a graduate of the Directors College at McMaster University.

Mohamed will join us on May 24, 2022. Please join me in welcoming him to Seneca.
