Since earning his BA in 1991 from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, Ray has been a commercial advertising photographer. His client's range from men's fashion apparel, to television personalities, to architectural firms. Throughout his career he has been an active member in his professional community. For two years Ray served on the Toronto Board of CAPIC (Canadian Association of Photographers and illustrators in Communication) as VP of photographic programming. He was a co-founder of the Canadian Photographic Centre (CPC), which specialized in amateur and professional photographic training and education, and co-founded Toronto's Studio One (S1) photography rental facility.
