Dual Credit Courses Taken

Behaviour of Animals and Applied Psychology of Learning and Careers

Seneca Program

What did you enjoy most about your Dual Credit experience?

It gave me an opportunity to test out courses, find what I like and get a taste of college before I actually go there full time.

How did Dual Credit help you prepare for postsecondary?

I was in Grade 12 when I did Dual Credit and it gave me a very good reality check. It also put my mind at ease in terms of what is ahead.

What advice would you give to a student that is considering taking Dual Credit?

My best advice is don’t let your fears and anxiety hold you back. It’s better to try something new and fail than not try at all. Everyone feels the same way. Everyone is worried about their own things. Try to look past whatever you’re worried about because no one is really looking.

Was Dual Credit different than you expected? And, if so, how?

I was surprised at the wide variety of course options Seneca has for Dual Credit.

One of the things that I wasn’t expecting was how much I enjoyed the professors. They were very helpful and patient. As a high school student taking my first college course, I really appreciated that.

Why would you recommend Dual Credit to high school students?

High school doesn’t really show you what a real life would be like with your career, but I feel like Seneca’s Dual Credit does that. It helps you to better prepare for what’s to come. I think everyone should take one to see what college life is like — even if you don’t know what you want to do.

How did Dual Credit help you choose to study at Seneca?

What first drew me in were the Dual Credits I wanted to take based on my interests — Behaviour of Animals and Applied Psychology of Learning and Careers. I loved the teachers. And after taking the courses, I spent some time doing my own research and looking on the Seneca website and I found a program I liked. Then I talked to a lot of people about Seneca and I heard only good, positive things.

I am also very grateful for Seneca’s language courses. They are mainly held on nights and/or weekends, which meant I could take them with my regular classes. That was another reason I chose Seneca.

What are you most looking forward to about studying at Seneca?

I’m most excited about being there and meeting people. I was a bit nervous about it, but I went to the Open House in person and it was a really amazing experience. The tour was very helpful. Now I know where things are and I feel comfortable on campus.

Is there anything else you think people should know about Dual Credit?

Just because it’s a college course for high school students doesn’t mean it’s any easier. It’s the same as any college course with lovely professors to help you.

I would recommend you treat it like you’re going to college for the first time. Take it seriously but have fun! It’s a good challenge and a way to prepare for the future.
