Why are you interested in sharing your Dual Credit experience?

I loved the Dual Credit experience. My experience taking a Dual Credit very much influenced my decision to pursue my postsecondary education at Seneca and I want to share that feeling with other students who are pursuing to take a Dual Credit at Seneca.

How did Dual Credit help you prepare for postsecondary?

As a former Dual Credit student, I can say without a doubt that the Dual Credit program made my transition from high school to college a lot easier. I was able to navigate the school better, make friends early on and it made me more familiar with programs like Blackboard and Outlook.

Why would you recommend Dual Credit to a current high school student? What advice would you give to a student considering taking Dual Credit?

The extra credit is enticing and transportation is included. If you want to experience what college life is like, the Dual Credit program is a great way to see it. You can experience all the amazing things that can happen when you take the program.

Is there anything else you think more people should know about Dual Credit or how it played a role in your educational journey?

The most memorable thing was making friends — I still talk to them to this day and we all support each other. If I didn’t take Dual Credit, I wouldn’t have made the friends I have now.

Class sizes were much smaller, and professors were more accessible. Learning from different people and cultures really helped me a lot.

If I would’ve known this in Grade 11, I would’ve taken more Dual Credit courses!

How did Dual Credit help you choose to study at Seneca?

I didn’t know what college life was like; I was terrified about going to college. From the Dual Credit program, I got to experience what college life was like and I liked the Seneca community. I got a membership to the gym as a Dual Credit student and met new people weightlifting. Because of the Seneca community, I decided to enrol at Seneca@York.

I also applied for the Dual Credit Bursary, wrote about my experiences as a Dual Credit student and received $1,000 towards full-time studies at Seneca.

What is/was your favourite part about studying at Seneca?

The professors were very helpful! They wanted the high school students to prepare to be college students. I learned how to use Blackboard and Microsoft Teams and how to respond to emails. I got a head start for college and knew what to do. From this prior experience, it made me want to enrol at Seneca even more.
